Big news?

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I’ve got this big deal that I really want to blog about… but it involves some people I know, and I haven’t yet asked permission to talk about it online yet. I don’t want to just blab about these people without them knowing about it, especially all over the interwebs, but it’s so hard to sit on this news!

In any case, check back soon, and maybe I’ll have something pretty awesome to share.

Maybe not…

NOT the news I hinted at, but almost as awesome…

A lot of you may not understand this… but hear me out. I live in Texas. And in Texas, this only happens once, maybe every other year… sometimes it goes 3 or 4 years before this happens:

That’s right! It’s SNOWING!!!

And more important than that–the snow is sticking! This is incredibly rare, and incredibly beautiful. I’m so glad it happened when it did, so I could go run out and play in it (in sandals and a T-shirt, in true Texas style). I’m also so glad that I live in this new house, with its large backyard, and plenty of cool trees, and rooftops for the snow to collect on, and a great 2nd story window to look out and watch from. In my old apartment, the coolness of this miracle weather would have been greatly diminished…

Oh, I’m so excited!  Happy snow day!!!

The REAL Big News

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Yes, snow is awesome (by the way–the day after snow? Yeah, it was 75 degrees outside, thanks, Texas), but thats not the big news I was hinting at before.

Drumroll please–

I’m an uncle! That’s right, my little sister had a kid! It’s a girl her name is Linden Reese. I’d like to think that the “Reese” is a nod of the hat to the singer of the often-referenced-on-this-site “Five Iron Frenzy,” but alas, I don’t think that’s where the name came from. In my head, though… in my head…

Anyway, Linden is pretty much awesome, as you can see. Most of the time I saw her, she constantly had her hands up, in a classic boxing guard, moving them around, looking for an opening. I think she’s gonna be a good fighter. And don’t worry, I will take my role of “crazy single uncle” very seriously. With “Uncle Buck” as my hero, I will inundate the child with comic books and science fiction.

Congratulations, sis!

She’s Talking About Me

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Today’s strip is another one that’s pulled kindof from life. I’ll never forget sitting in a Jack-in-Box one time, with this girl that I was, at the time, completely taken with. With my natural wit and smooth talk (read: awkward, stumbling transitions) I maneuvered the conversation to the topic of relationships.

Then, I listened to her describe, in detail, her ideal mate, which was as perfect a description of me as I’ve ever heard. I don’t know if it makes me selfish (I prefer to think “focused”) to relate everything she said back to myself, but seriously. She didn’t know what was sitting right in front of her–it was me… and I was awesome…

I’m not exactly sure what happened to her, but I think she ended up with some guy that was totally perfect for her in every way. I ended up sitting on the couch in sweatpants eating Cheetos and Mountain Dew…

I think it’s obvious who got the better deal.
