Musical Musings
Monday, April 14th, 2008Last night I went to see a show. I used to do this all the time, but now I’m getting old, so it’s a big deal when it happens. The first band I saw was called “The Feds,” and they’ve been touted to me as great, and genius, and the best band in Dallas, and all this.
Boy did they disappoint. Yeah, they were a bunch of spares.
But the band I really went to see was Halcyon Nights, and they were totally freakin’ awesome. If you like heady prog-rock with lots of complex harmony and VERY complex time signature shifting, and killer grooves, check them out. They’re kinda like Tool or Oceansize, with more of a groove orientation, and much more harmonic complexity.
You can see more of their music at myspace.com/halcyonnightsmusic.
Oh, and if you don’t know what Bob is talking about in today’s strip when he says “Shoegaze Music,” just google the term, then buy everything you can find from a band called “My Bloody Valentine.”
You’ll thank me later.
Honestly, I’m kinda surprised Bob didn’t say Dragonball. Maybe he doesn’t want anyone to know it’s his secret guilty pleasure.
