Musical Musings

Last night I went to see a show. I used to do this all the time, but now I’m getting old, so it’s a big deal when it happens. The first band I saw was called “The Feds,” and they’ve been touted to me as great, and genius, and the best band in Dallas, and all this.

Boy did they disappoint.  Yeah, they were a bunch of spares.

But the band I really went to see was Halcyon Nights, and they were totally freakin’ awesome. If you like heady prog-rock with lots of complex harmony and VERY complex time signature shifting, and killer grooves, check them out. They’re kinda like Tool or Oceansize, with more of a groove orientation, and much more harmonic complexity.

You can see more of their music at myspace.com/halcyonnightsmusic.

Oh, and if you don’t know what Bob is talking about in today’s strip when he says “Shoegaze Music,” just google the term, then buy everything you can find from a band called “My Bloody Valentine.”

You’ll thank me later.

Honestly, I’m kinda surprised Bob didn’t say Dragonball. Maybe he doesn’t want anyone to know it’s his secret guilty pleasure.

I think you need to get off you high “music” horse bud. I really don’t know what is up with you!! You need to tone it down a little on bashing music bands that really aren’t all that bad. Well, maybe they are, but that does not give you the right to bad mouth them. I know you probably like more of the musical side, instead of the lyric side. I can tell by your comic strip. It is all so obvious. Just keep it cool man. Keep IT cool. Do it for the children. Do IT for the children.

This is random. I read your post last night talking about “Halcyon Nights”. Today I was reading an article on MSNBC:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/15/us/nationalspecial2/15seminarians.html?ex=1365998400&en=9e266f9bddbe6489&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss#

And it has the phrase “Halcyon Days” in the first paragraph. Strange.

Damon, that is amazing! How weird… almost surreal…

Now all we need is someone on the TV to talk about Halcyon Mid-Morning-to-Afternoons, and we’ll be golden!
