Musical Musings

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Last night I went to see a show. I used to do this all the time, but now I’m getting old, so it’s a big deal when it happens. The first band I saw was called “The Feds,” and they’ve been touted to me as great, and genius, and the best band in Dallas, and all this.

Boy did they disappoint.  Yeah, they were a bunch of spares.

But the band I really went to see was Halcyon Nights, and they were totally freakin’ awesome. If you like heady prog-rock with lots of complex harmony and VERY complex time signature shifting, and killer grooves, check them out. They’re kinda like Tool or Oceansize, with more of a groove orientation, and much more harmonic complexity.

You can see more of their music at myspace.com/halcyonnightsmusic.

Oh, and if you don’t know what Bob is talking about in today’s strip when he says “Shoegaze Music,” just google the term, then buy everything you can find from a band called “My Bloody Valentine.”

You’ll thank me later.

Honestly, I’m kinda surprised Bob didn’t say Dragonball. Maybe he doesn’t want anyone to know it’s his secret guilty pleasure.

Cape 4

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be appearing at this year’s CAPE – The Comics and Pop-Culture Expo. Also, it can be made to stand for “Comics Are Pretty Exciting.”

I love Cape, its a great show where tons of great artists get together – and it’s free! Yeah, you don’t have to pay admission to enjoy the comic goodness that Cape has to offer. It’s on Saturday, May 3rd in Dallas, at Zeus Comics. Check out www.capeday.com for all the info you’ll need.

I’ll post more details as the date gets closer. I’m looking forward to seeing you guys out there! And remember: Comics Are Pretty Exciting. Thats what CAPE is all about.

If you’re wondering what the boys are talking about with the baby-eating cats… In the past, Frizz has been interested in having wild animals as companions. Check it out here.
