CAPE!

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

This is the weekend is like the Summer of Comics!

The biggest event, of course, is C.A.P.E.! CAPE is a big festival where tons and tons of artists and writers get together to hang out with you, loyal readers – and its FREE! No admission! Also, there’s FREE COMICS! Also, a Costume Contest! Also, Me! Also, Puppies! For realz, I think a pet costume contest is part of the deal.

I’ll be there with some exclusive stuff made just for this show, and I’m pretty psyched about it. I’ll be doing sketches, I’ve got books, and it’s sure to be a good time. Check out www.capeday.com for all the info you’ll need to rock your comics world.

If for some reason, you can’t make it out, see if you can head to Keith’s Comics North Dallas, which is having the grand opening of their new location in Carrollton, they’ve got free books, celebrity guests, and an awesome new store that I really like.

If THATS not enough for you, there’s a live art show tonight in downtown Dallas, and on top of ALL that… Iron Man comes out this weekend!

Geez…

So, put on your comic pants and enjoy the summer!

Post-Con Disorder

MAn, CAPE was a blast, a big thanks to everyone who came out and said hi, and if you’re new to site, welcome!

The weather couldn’t have been better for this show, it was sunny but not too hot, and breezy without being crazy windy (I only had to get up and chase my stack of prints one time, thanks to some cleverly placed rocks). Most of all, the place was a-glow with a love for the artform of comics, people were genuinely excited, reveling in the awesomeness of comics.

Also, I saw Iron Man! A full review will be coming soon, but the quick version is: while Iron Man isn’t the greatest piece of cinematic art ever created, its a really good superhero movie, and a great piece of summer movie fun. If you go, be SURE to stay after the credits – there’s a little bonus scene that made me stand up and cheer in the theater.

Did anyone else see it? I’m curious to see what everyone else thought – I tend to be over-lenient, and quick to love a movie that gets me all comics-excited. Is this movie really as good as I thought it was?

To Die, To Sleep, Perchance to Blog

Wow, it’s been a while since we’ve seen these guys, hasn’t it? In case you don’t remember, check this strip for the first official appearance of the Emo Kids.

(Or, if you really want me to be embarrassed, check this out for the emo prototype)

Man, this week has been so busy, I’ve had very little time to sleep, and the human body can only go on 4 hours a night for so long. And last night, my body had had enough.

It pains me say that this dialog happened between me and my roommate:

“So, Mike, you wanna watch some Buffy?” (on the word ‘buffy,’ two fists are raised in maniacal delight)

“Nah, man, I’m going to bed…”

Man, I am so ashamed of my own existence.  The saddest part? This exchange took place at TEN FIFTEEN PM!!!

I’m sorry, I’ve failed you all… I’ve failed myself, and I’ve even failed Joss Whedon…

But hey, there’s a new comic up today! Chalk that up in the good news column, eh?  Allright, now I go to watch more off the Buffster. We’re on season 7 baby!
