Post-Con Disorder
MAn, CAPE was a blast, a big thanks to everyone who came out and said hi, and if you’re new to site, welcome!
The weather couldn’t have been better for this show, it was sunny but not too hot, and breezy without being crazy windy (I only had to get up and chase my stack of prints one time, thanks to some cleverly placed rocks). Most of all, the place was a-glow with a love for the artform of comics, people were genuinely excited, reveling in the awesomeness of comics.
Also, I saw Iron Man! A full review will be coming soon, but the quick version is: while Iron Man isn’t the greatest piece of cinematic art ever created, its a really good superhero movie, and a great piece of summer movie fun. If you go, be SURE to stay after the credits – there’s a little bonus scene that made me stand up and cheer in the theater.
Did anyone else see it? I’m curious to see what everyone else thought – I tend to be over-lenient, and quick to love a movie that gets me all comics-excited. Is this movie really as good as I thought it was?

I swear, all weekend long nearly everyone in the theatre department who saw Iron Man could not shut up about it and how great it was. I’m not one for superhero movies, nor am I one for big hype movies, or movies that just came out, or Gwyneth Paltrow, but I suppose after all the rigamaroo I’ll go see it. Maybe.

Just be warned, if you don’t like superhero movies, or gadgets, then you may not get as sucked in as everyone else. But, I think if anything, you’ll appreciate Downey’s dry wit and great comedic delivery and timing. The (thankfully) few dramatic moments… not as strong, but he kept me laughing., for all the right reasons.
I didn’t ever before think Paltrow was pretty, but man… with red hair, she’s just beautiful, and she does a good job with this role, I think, not that its too challenging, but she doesn’t overplay it, or try to steal scenes, she does just what’s needed, and looks adorable doing it.

It was a blast being next to you at the con Mike. some good times, and all i have to say is “Dynamic Orgies”
I now officially fear what can come out of our minds if the two of us are in the vicinity of each other. Overall it was one of the best times I’ve had in my life, and I hope to see you there next year.
And if any of you our there came up to Mike’s table and not mine (I was right next to Mike) I will hunt you down and make you fear my drawin’ skillz.

Oh no, now everyone’s going to think we had some sort of dynamic orgy… but seriously… thanks man! I had a blast as well, it was a good show, and nice to get to hang with you for a while. In a completely not sexual way… yeah…
But for realz, the rest of you guys should check out Pat’s stuff at pyrotech07.deviantart.com It’s pretty much greatness!

I saw Iron Man with a few friends of mine, and we all thought it was good in different aspects. I personally like how they brought the story into the present. One friend adored the gadgets, while another loved the dry comedy that only Downey could handle; another liked the CG battles, while yet another thought that the subtlety in the “final sequences” (trying to avoid a spoiler here is difficult) was fantastic. And yes, me + final scene = giddy on multiple levels.

Yes! JD, I’m glad you liked Iron Man, not only because I like that you enjoy the comic book goodness, but it also validates my opinion! Yes!
You’re right, though, I think there’s something there for everyone… except that hard core film critic that wants every movie to be “Citizen Cane.”
