More Fan Art From Patrick Rodriguez

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Allright guys… I’ve been sitting on this for a long time, cause I wasn’t exactly sure what to do with it. I was blown away by this piece, and Patrick was gracious enough to give me the original art, which hangs permanently above my computer, as a reminder of how awesome my readers are (thats you!) and how great of an artist Pat is, and that my work resonates with someone other than myself (us artists often need to be reminded of that).

So here’s the piece:

I’d like to USE this for something, although rightly I’m not sure what. Chances are this won’t be the last time you see this gem, though. Thanks Pat for another awesome piece of art! Be SURE to check out Pat’s stuff at http://pyrotech07.deviantart.com/

Stimulation

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I got an interesting letter in the mail the other day. It was from the government, telling me that I was about to receive an “economic stimulus package.”

Many of you no doubt are receiving the same things. The idea is that we all go out and buy, buy, buy, and make the economy work again. But times are tough all around, and I have that sneaking feeling that most people will use their economic stimulation to buy gas, or pay rent, or get food, or some of those more basic necessities.

I, on the other hand, feel compelled to do my duty to this country. To make the sacrifices necessary to help the economy. I must do the right thing in the face of adversity…

So I’m buying an iMac.

You don’t understand what this means for me – I am a lifetime PC user. I’ve been well versed in windows since “Windows 3.1 for Workgroups” was released. I was there when windows 95 blew our minds with the “start” button. I was there when Windows ME blew our minds with how crappy it was.

But its time to face the facts. Vista is terrible. Microsoft no longer inspires the confidence that it once did, and I find that I can no longer support them. It’s time to make the switch to mac.

I’ve used macs a little bit, but not a ton. I’m excited and terrified at the same time. It’s like I’m about to go on a date with the really hot girl I’ve always admired but never been able to talk to. So I appeal to you – mac users of the world – got any advice? What do I need or not need? What software should I look into getting? How do I use garage band?

I’m so excited… I’m so scared…

Finding the Cure

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

I think my favorite part of today’s strip is Ray’s comment. Is she saying that Frizz’s “death to film” comment from friday’s strip is genius, and she now is in shock, contemplating it’s monumental significance? Or is she finally understanding how ridiculous Frizz really is?

Only time will tell. Ray and Frizz’s “relationship” (if you can even call it that) is very weird.

In other news, I saw one of my favorite bands the other day: The Cure! I was super excited about this show, their bassist, Simon Gallup, was a huge influence on me as a bassist, and I even felt like I approached the instrument similar to his unique approach before I even heard him, so finding him was like finding a kindred spirit…

Of course, Robert Smith was in top form as well. It wasn’t exactly the lineup I wanted to see… it was weird without Roger on keys – in fact, there were no keys at all on anything, which was odd and a little dissapointing. Also, there was some technical problems with the sound, it seemed, but despite that, it was still a great show, and I was thrilled and honored to be in the same room, paying tribute to one of my truly favorite bands of all time.

They were definitely near the top of the list of bands I NEEDED to see before I could die happy. Does anyone else out there have such a list? What bands do you NEED to see at some point in your life? Feel free to include bands that aren’t around anymore, that you lament not ever being able to see… (Jaco Pastorius might fit that bill for me, or maybe even Rage Against the Machine)
