Boldly Go…
Friday, October 31st, 2008Is having a character dress as Geordi LaForge too old of a reference?
All I know is, I got some kinda Star Trek fever this week. Late last week I came across all the new pictures of the new Star Trek film coming out soon, and I got a real hankerin’ to watch the old films. I then realized I shamefully didn’t own any of them… so I ordered the box set of all the movies. Yeah, I’m THAT guy.
I’ve been watching them, all this week, kindof alternating between the “Next Generation” films and the classic cast films. Some of those movies are real bad, but some of them are so great (I’m a little different from a lot of people in that I think ‘Generations’ is a sweet flick). I gotta admit I tear up at the end of “Wrath of Kahn,” not just at Spock’s glorious “Tale of Two Cities” parallel sacrifice, but the monologue at the end, the traditional Mission Statement of the series.
I mean, not only am I attached to the characters, and not only do I love the space battles, but there’s something really primal and romantic in that act of just… boldly going where no man has gone before. As that statement is uttered by Spock’s majestic monotone and music swells… man, I get goosebumps, I tell ya.
I gotta admit I’m real nervous about the new film, but the teaser trailer, with all the famous space quotes from Kennedy and the like… then Spock’s voice again… man, I get those same goosebumps.
Tonight I’ll be drinkin’ it up for Halloween, and I ask all you guys who are fans as well, to join me in toasting one for the valiant crew of the Enterprise, and everything they represent.
