Politics, Religion, and Burritos

Monday, January 26th, 2009

This isn’t the first time this topic has come up here, but I’ve noticed an increasing hostility towards opposing burrito factions of late. In fact, around certain people, I’m more comfortable insulting their political views than their burrito preference.

So, if you don’t know, Freebird’s is a burrito place that started in California in the 80’s, and in the 90’s, became a legendary part of Texas A&M’s college experience. It’s ultra simplistic method of making awesome burritos (and it’s sassy indie attitude) caught on, and it seemed like every major campus in Texas had a rip-off version of it (UNT has ‘Hooya’ for example… lame name…). Eventually, Someone created Chipotle, which is basically the same exact business model Freebird’s always used, but they made a national chain out of it. To me, Chipotle is a sad, dying echo of what Freebirds is supposed to be.  But I know some people who prefer it… Just be sure to try the original before you judge whether one burrito is better than another. We should all be able to come together, in this new era of opportunity, and enjoy burritos of all kinds, together.

But… Chipotle is dumb.
