This is the Ending

Friday, May 1st, 2009

And so the Twitter Saga comes to an end.If you’d like, go back and read the whole thing from the beginning!

I had a lot of fun with this story, and I hope you guys enjoyed it at least half as much as I did. I’ve gotten a better response from this story than any other before, and I’m thinking about possibly making it into a limited edition print book of them, or something… just some thoughts. In any case, I had a blast, so thanks for all the feedback and all the kind words!  This story totally evolved on its own, I never intended it to be a big storyline, I just had one or two gags about twitter, and one thing led to another, and before I knew it, it had become a sprawling sci-fi parody epic techno zombie opera. Amazing!

We’ll return to some regularly scheduled jokes for a bit and then there’s some big things happening to the gang later this year, so remember to keep coming back for even weirder adventures of our heroes. I use the term “heroes” pretty loosely.

In other news, This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day! That means its a great excuse to head over to your local comic shop, pick up some free books, and enjoy the greatness of comics. If you’ve been out of the comics scene for a while, this is the best excuse for you to get back in — free books!

I also want to take this moment to highlight a new find — I love finding new comics, especially sci-fi ones, especially by readers of Dorm Dorks, so, if you have a chance, head over to Moon Freight 3 for some good sci-fi laughs. It updates on the same days I do over at moonfreight3.comicgenesis.com

Star Trek Countdown

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I try not to let myself get hyped up for movies, ’cause I always seem to be disapointed. Ever since Spider-Man 3, I’ve never let me heart get attached to a movie before I see it. But man, I can’t help myself with Star Trek. I’m so excited about it, so I declare this week to be Star Trek week, we’ll get some good Trek jokes happening until the movie comes out. See ya at the theater!

Tricording

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

The word “Tricorder” has always been problematic for me. Is it like a REcorder? What is it recording? And how is the TRIcorder more effective? Were there DI-corders before that? These are the questions that plague the Trekkie.

It’s important to note that Star Trek has been a vital part of Dorm Dorks from day one. When I first started the strip, as more of a hobby than anything else, I had 4 strips that I used to “pitch” the strip to my friends. The idea was that if they didn’t wrinkly their nose in horror at the awful looking comics, then I would start posting them on the internet. Obviously, their nose-wrinkling terror didn’t effect me and I posted the strips anyway, but one of them was total Star Trek goodness.

Trek has remained a part of the strip ever since it’s inception, and once, William Shatner himself even stopped by for a cameo. I can’t believe I’m linking to these ancient strips from the archive, the ones that look so bad I can hardly stand to look at them, but this is a good time for reflection, I think.

As nerdy as it is, and as silly as it gets sometimes, Trek has always been a part of my life, so I’m honored to contribute in any small way to the celebration of Trek that accompanies the new film. Two more days!

Testing

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Hey guys, I’m gonna attempt to fix a few things on the site, so things might look a little wonky for the next few hours, no worries, it’s all part of the plan!

UPDATE: Allright, I think I’m finished. The biggest thing was reducing the width so it would fit better on smaller monitors and laptops. I work on this widescreen beast, and I sometimes forget how it is to look at smaller screens. Also, the strips that are extra tall shouldn’t make the site go crazy anymore.

Also, looks like I’ve fixed just about all the other little things that were bugging me, and that some of you pointed out before. Fixed some sidebar buttons and added new ones like the RSS button, check that out! Also softened the red line on the blog section to make it easier on the eyes, and fixed some of the IE bugs.

If you see any other issues with the site as you’re exploring, please let me know, there’s a decent chance I missed something. Thanks for putting up with those few hours of craziness!
