Tricording
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009The word “Tricorder” has always been problematic for me. Is it like a REcorder? What is it recording? And how is the TRIcorder more effective? Were there DI-corders before that? These are the questions that plague the Trekkie.
It’s important to note that Star Trek has been a vital part of Dorm Dorks from day one. When I first started the strip, as more of a hobby than anything else, I had 4 strips that I used to “pitch” the strip to my friends. The idea was that if they didn’t wrinkly their nose in horror at the awful looking comics, then I would start posting them on the internet. Obviously, their nose-wrinkling terror didn’t effect me and I posted the strips anyway, but one of them was total Star Trek goodness.
Trek has remained a part of the strip ever since it’s inception, and once, William Shatner himself even stopped by for a cameo. I can’t believe I’m linking to these ancient strips from the archive, the ones that look so bad I can hardly stand to look at them, but this is a good time for reflection, I think.
As nerdy as it is, and as silly as it gets sometimes, Trek has always been a part of my life, so I’m honored to contribute in any small way to the celebration of Trek that accompanies the new film. Two more days!
