Are Vampires Dead (not as ironic a question as it sounds)
Happy Halloween everyone!
When doing some thinking about how to write this joke (and it was hard…. I could do a whole webcomic unto itself just making fun of Twilight day in and day out…) I figured out how sad it was to me that Angel and Twilight had so much in common. A Vampire tortured by his feelings? Dumb. A vampire with several varying love interests? Dumber. Atleast Angel would sometimes get up and kill some people. The dudes in Twilight aren’t really even vampires by definition. They don’t kill people, they live just fine in the sun, there’s really nothing vampiric about them at all…
And please note that I say all this as a staunch Whedon worshiper. The man has done very little wrong in my eyes (I’m not 100% sold on Dollhouse, but thats for another time) and I have maintained for a while now that Angel is a better series than Buffy. I don’t say that lightly, ’cause I love me some Buffy. You’ll remember these strips, based on my real life…
This is leading my brain to a train of thought… I might do one more vampire joke Monday, but then we’ll launch a new storyline and get down to what everyone loves: the bog of character development! Oh joy of joys! (It’ll be funny, trust me).

Edward Cullen is a vegetarian, doesn’t suck blood, lives in the woods, and goes out in daylight – he’s not a vampire but a freaking fairy!

Hey now… Dracula was actually pretty hardcore. Bram Stoker knew his stuff.

You’re right, the original dracula was pretty dang awesome. Even the Keanu Reeves/Winona Rider version was pretty cool…

Stephanie Meyer has admitted to not even doing research on vampires before she wrote the books. That set your mind at ease?

It does a little… although I wonder how much “research” is necessary to know that vampires drink blood and die in sunlight. Isn’t this stuff common knowledge? Or are these the things that only nerds like myself know, and take for granted?

Yeah, Mike, I hear you.
But then I thought that common knowledge would have included such things as “The Millenium Falcon can do the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs,” and “It takes 1.21 Jiggawatts to power a time machine,” so maybe I’m not the best judge…
In any case, I just hope your site isn’t overrun by slavering Twilight fangirls in the next few days. They can be pretty hardcore about their misguided fandom.

I knew about drinking blood, dieing in sunlight, garlic etc when I was a similar age to most Twitards! (Twi tard – A fan of the Twilight series).
I’m also a fan of good writing, and not of 4th rate Mary Sue fanfic!

@Marcus: I thought those phrases were common knowledge as well… but I also am a poor judge.
@Ken: You are totally right! Call them out!
