The Best Channel Ever

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Ok, I know this looks like I’m slamming the History Channel… but I gotta be honest… I agree with Bob in the last panel. I watch the history channel all the time. It’s probably the only thing I watch regularly. In my opinion, the best show on television right now is “Dogfights,” which uses CG animation to recreate famous air combat missions from all eras. They often interview the pilots that flew the missions as well. It’s so freakin’ cool!

Yes, I’m a history nerd, and yes, World War Two is infused with a certain romanticism that probably isn’t accurate, but I’m just so fascinated by the subject, especially when it comes to aircraft. I get really into studying fighter planes, especially of the WWII era. Naturally, the history channel is the place to go for that sort of thing.

So, History Channel fans, please don’t take offense at today’s joke… it’s more of an homage that comes from the heart.

Texas Vs. OU

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Yep, its that time of year, the big game, the big rivalry: Texas vs. OU. This means that literally everyone that has ever lived in Oklahoma drives down the same two lanes of I-35, turning it into a parking lot of Jeeps, muddy trucks, and SUV’s with trailer attachments: all bearing shoe polish and window flags with the OU logos, and silly catch phrases.

For those of us that went to the University of North Texas during all this, we knew to get out of there FAST, or to not leave at all that weekend. Driving anywhere became impossible, even getting gas can be an issue. Like, if you are bringing your horse trailer down to the game (which, by the way, seriously?) then stopping at the two-pump Texaco might not be your best option…

I have friends from both schools, so I have never felt a pull towards a particular side of this war. I’m torn, because I like Oklahoma, but there’s the hick issue, and I really like Austin, but there’s the hippie problem. So both sides have their strengths and weaknesses. Do we have any readers here that are passionate one way or the other?
