So, the scene Chuck and Bob are watching today is from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, where the young engineer (Scotty’s nephew I think? Maybe? He’s somehow related to Scotty, and they tell you that at some point, which is a clue that he’s probably gonna die REAL soon, even sans-redshirt) is on his deathbed after Khan’s brutal attack.

I remember as a kid being so confused by this scene, where Kirk basically lies to the kid so that he dies happy. When I was like seven, I was like, “oh, I guess they did get things repaired… wait, what?” That, combined with the over-acting so typical of my beloved Trek made the scene always stick in my mind. I just thought how funny it would be if Kirk just totally played up his “funny jerk” persona even in serious situations like this one.

This one might be a little too “in” for you non-trekkies. If thats the case, come back next week for some more sports jokes! (Not really, next week we cover Bablyon-5 timelines.)

Thats one of my favorite little moments in that movie, but it got drastically changed for TV:
